Julian on the Daily

Last week was Julians 9 month check up, they checked his weight, his height, well everything that is checked on a usual check up.

We expressed our worries. Of course. We were mainly worried about his asthma. Yes, he has a bit if asthma. It was diagnosed a few months back when we went for a sick visit when we only thought he had a cold and maybe an ear infection. That day he was given an inhaler with a spacer. A spacer helps when kids in our case a baby doesn't know how to properly use an inhaler. He was also given treatments for his nebulizer to help in future coughs.

So prior to this 9 month check up he had been waking up with coughing spasms. Only thing that would calm it down was a breathing treatment on the nebulizer.

We expressed this worry to his doctor, which we love. Dr. Valicek is gretat! So we went through all the possible culprits. The fan is not pointed to him, the temperature is alright, etc.  We're just not sure what it is. Along with coughing he would always had what seemed to be itchy eyes and a frequent runny nose. So she decided, step 1 was and allery medicine, Zertec is our first try at finding out what was going on. If this doesn't work and doesn't get better in a month we will proceed to a stronger inhaler twice a day for the foreseeable future. Its been almost a week and I see little difference in the watery eyes and runny nose but he hasn't woke up with an uncontrollable cough since the visit so for now I'm happy with that.

She said because we don't know what is causing his lungs to flare up we should stay away from eggs, fish and peanut butter until 15 months. So now we don't only have to wait for him to turn 1 to let him try peanut butter! We have to wait til 15 months. I saw saddened. All I can do is pray that hopefully this goes away.

He weighs 23 lbs and is at an average height.

She told us to start putting his formula in sippy cups to start weaning him off the bottle.

Thanks for reading.
How was your baby’s last check up?

Avocado Summer Rolls

If you love avocado like I do, then you might be curious as to what else you can make with it.

Well my hungry self had no idea what to eat earlier and already had this basic idea in mind of what I wanted to try earlier in the week. But of course I was distracted by all things baby and kept putting it off, until today!!!

Well this was it!
Avocado Summer Rolls!

I don't have all the ingredients I originally wanted to include. But I made due with what I could. And still loved the outcome!
I used
-1 avocado
-Alfalfa Sprouts
-Green Leaf Lettuce
-Salt
-Chili Powder
-Rice Spring Wrappers

I love alfalfa sprouts!  Delicious and nutritious! I'll tell you how!

One cup of alfalfa sprouts supplies 2.7 milligrams of the 75 to 90 milligrams of vitamin C you need each day for a strong immune system and healthy skin.

A serving of alfalfa sprouts supplies small amounts of bone-building calcium and potassium for healthy muscles and a normal heart beat.

You also get tiny doses of magnesium, iron, folate and vitamin A from a serving of alfalfa sprouts.
Alfalfa sprouts are one of the most significant dietary sources of phytoestrogens, which are beneficial compounds in plant foods that can help reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer and osteoporosis!

The phytoestrogens in alfalfa sprouts might reduce symptoms of menopause as well.
Alfalfa sprouts contain compounds called saponins, which can help lower your LDL, or bad, cholesterol while also increasing your HDL, or "good" cholesterol.
Saponins might also help boost your immunity.

Avocados are so good for you too!!!

While avocados have a high caloric count (one avocado is 320 calories), the various nutrients and “healthy” fats make it a must-eat. Some call the avocado the alphabet fruit because of all the vitamins it contains. One avocado provides your body with vitamins A, C, E, K and B6, along with an enormous amount of potassium and “healthy” fat. Perhaps the biggest health benefit of avocados is that by adding avocado to certain foods, you can improve your absorption of nutrients

Avocadoes provide all 18 essential amino acids necessary for the body to form a complete protein. Unlike the protein in steak, which is difficult for most people to digest, avocado protein is readily absorbed by the body because avocadoes also contain fiber.

Directions:
To loosen the rice paper you submerge them in warm water until soft.

Layer your ingredients to your liking.

I did avocado, sprinkled a bit of salt and chili powder, then the alfalfa sprouts, then some green leaf lettuce.
Lastly roll like you would a burrito.

These are not my prettiest creations because I didn't have enough of the ingredients but I loved them so much I HAD to post!

I dipped mine in Light soy sauce, but you could do your favorite dipping sauce.

Hope someone tries this and loves it as much as I did!
Your fellow avocado lover
Maria!

Happy calorie counting!!!!

Personally I love these products.MAM has awesome teethers and cups .And I love the 2RedHens diaper bags. So spacious and good quality! My baby had a bit of flat head so a Tortle was great for him!

The Tortle

Tortle is a simple, comfortable beanie that helps prevent and treat early stages flat head syndrome: plagiocephaly & torticollis. It makes the job of repositioning newborns safe and easy. It is recommended that all newborns wear a Tortle for the first few months of life to aid in repositioning; which supports healthy development. Tortle works by gently deflecting your baby’s head when she's sitting or lying on the back of her head, to gently move her head from side to side.
The incidence of plagiocephaly and torticollis (or flat head syndrome) has increased by 600% since 1992 due to the amount of time infants spend on their back (the safest place to be). However, if left untreated, treatment is expensive and can be hard on the baby. Moreover, long term developmental delays can occur. But plagiocephaly and torticollis almost 100% preventable with repositioning, which Tortle makes easy.
The Rooster Diaper Bag is the most popular bag from 2 Red Hens. To a passerby, the Rooster bag looks like a cute purse, but look inside, and you’ll see the functionality that every mom needs in a diaper bag.
